Chapter 7
I just finished reading chapter 7 and started thinking about writing assignments and what they mean to the average student. Personally when I first started college I loved to write. I would write for fun on a regular basis and truly enjoyed many of my assignments in my early composition classes. Usually these assignments had interesting tie ins to the topics that we discussed in class and formatting was a small portion of the overall assignment. Now I'm a senior in college and I can honestly say that I HATE writing. I feel like each assignment makes my writing worse and I see my assignments as obstacles to get through rather than enjoyable learning experiences. It is my hope that when I start teaching my students will never feel about writng the way I feel right now. I think that it is important to do what Chritenbury said and give assignments that are engaging to students and relate to their lives. I don't want the writing in my class to be an obstacle.

Do you now hate writing because you don't feel engaged in the topic or because you have to do so much of it as an English student?
As an English major, writing just seems so repetitive and overwhelming. Everyone expects it to be the best writing because that's our major, but that's a lot of pressure. I can understand why you don't like to write...but HATE it?? I don't hate it- yet!
I'm sooooo tired of writing papers. I've been writing research papers and analyzing literature for four years now, and I'm ready to move on. I don't see the assignments as meaningless - often I'm interested in the topic or at least recognize its importance. But I'm just tired of doing it.
I feel the same way Kevin! I love to write but it seems like all my teachers are simply giving me busy work writing assignments now, I have been trying really hard to see the benefits of these but so far nothing has come to me!
I just came in here to see what all the fuss was about.....I, uh....
AGREE to a certain degree. I think with so many English classes for our major, each assigning a massive amount of "research" papers, it will take a while to get the joy back into writing. I find them tedious, but also find pride in the finished product.
